What is Retailer?

The entity that purchases goods from a manufacturer, wholesaler, or some other distributor to resell it is known as a retailer. They sell goods to the consumer at a mark-up and earn revenue. Walmart and Target are good examples of big retail companies: they buy goods in large volumes from wholesalers and manufacturers both big and small and make them available to the end customer. Wholesalers are different from retailers in that they sell goods to businesses instead of direct consumers.

The types of retailers are as follows:

  1. Brick-and-mortar retailers
  2. Online retailers
  3. Special event retailers
  4. Kiosks retailers
  5. Pop-up retailers

The competitive environment today requires retailers to sell via more than one means to be successful as customers wish for multiple options to purchase from their favorite brand.
