What is Pickup Points?

The point that allows the customer to choose where they want to receive their order is known as a pickup point. This service is also known as out-of-home delivery and provides more flexibility than home delivery. The customer can choose the pickup location as per their convenience and schedules. Pick-up points offer flexibility, bring variety, save time and money and also avoid failed deliveries.

What are the different kinds of pick-up points?

The different kinds of pick-up points include:

  1. Click and collect
Popular among retailers. The method helps create customer turnover indirectly and even increases sales.
  2. Parcel lockers
Located in public spaces and require complex infrastructure. The only disadvantage of this is that the system cannot be used for large parcels.
  3. Post office
Can be used as a pickup point where there are no other pick-up points available.
  4. Collection points
The are similar to Pick Up In-Store except that the store can be a bakery, laundry, or even grocery store nearby

How do pickup point deliveries work?

First the customer gets into an app or e-commerce website to place the order.

Once the customer places an order, he/she can choose the pick-up point where the carrier should leave the package. A customer may be provided multiple options like near home or office or any other convenient location.

After the company drops-off the package at the customer’s preferred pick-up point, it informs the customer about the status of the delivery through message and email alerts.

The customer has to pick up the package within the specified threshold the company specifies. For instance, a company might say that a customer must pick up the package within 5 to 10 days from the drop-off date of the package. Else, the company gets back those orders and counts them as unsuccessful delivery attempts.

How does pick-up point delivery benefit customers?

  • Allows customers to decide when and where to pick up their package
  • Pick-up point deliveries are convenient and faster for modern customers who engage themselves in busy schedules, leading to improved customer satisfaction
  • Helps save the time and energy involved in returning a package
  • Eliminates the likelihood of repeated failed deliveries
  • Minimizes the delivery costs as it transports a dozens of parcels to the same destination
