## Key Takeaways

- Network design tools are becoming essential for reducing supply chain costs and meeting increasingly demanding delivery timeframes as supply chains grow more complex.
- Digital twin technology enables companies to run “what-if” scenarios to optimize node placement, warehouse locations, and distribution networks without costly physical investments.
- Modern supply chains require robust flexibility to handle unpredictable events, making network design and optimization critical for maintaining performance.
- Locus’ network optimization solution creates digital supply chain models to optimize four key elements: inventory, strategic sourcing, physical goods flow, and location intelligence.

It gives us immense pleasure to announce that Locus has been listed as a Representative Vendor in the 2022 Gartner® Market Guide for Supply Chain Network Design Tools. This is our second such milestone after being recently featured as a Representative Vendor in Gartner®’s 2021 [Market Guide for Vehicle Routing and Scheduling](https://locus.sh/blogs/gartner-identified-locus-for-vehicle-routing-scheduling-technology/)
.

Speaking on the achievement, Nishith Rastogi, Founder and CEO, said, “Given the growing complexities in modern supply chains, more brands are now rethinking their distribution networks. With ‘what-if’ simulations and supply chain digital twin representations, we help enterprises design flexible and optimal distribution networks for the smooth flow of merchandise. Being listed as a representative vendor in the latest Gartner® Market Guide is an absolute honor for us as we strive to make [last-mile logistics](https://locus.sh/use-cases/last-mile-delivery-routing/)
effortless for enterprises across the globe with our tech.”

Globally, the end customer continues to demand their deliveries in ever-shorter time frames. Market trends also continue to evolve faster than ever. And as supply chains continue to grow in scale and complexity to meet these demands, so do the costs. Network design tools have been growing in importance precisely because they are essential for reducing supply chain costs, [improving delivery rates](https://locus.sh/resources/introducing-fadr/)
, and service level agreements (SLAs) with meticulous distribution network planning.

There is also the question of rising uncertainty caused by unpredictable events on supply chain performance. This makes robustness and flexibility for supply chains non-negotiable in today’s times. And network design and optimization are instrumental in bringing about both.

Locus’ network optimization solution streamlines supply chain performance of four key elements, namely:
**1. Inventory optimization** – [Multi-echelon inventory level optimization](https://locus.sh/multi-echelon-supply-chain-inventory-optimization/)
 across the supply chain

**2. Strategic sourcing** – Optimizing sourcing costs and procurement processes using data intelligence

**3. The physical flow of goods** – Optimized by transportation, lane, route planning and logistics optimization

**4. Location intelligence** – Provides the accurate placement of supply chain nodes, warehouses, and distribution hubs

The solution improves performance across these elements by creating a ‘[supply chain digital twin](https://locus.sh/resources/glossary/digital-twins/)
’ of its existing supply chain network. It uses advanced algorithms to create a complex digital model of real-life supply chain networks. These digital twins can then be put through a wide range of ‘what-if’ scenarios that project how various network design decisions can affect its performance. By adding multiple real-life constraints, running these scenarios can shed light on the optimal number of nodes, warehouses and distribution centers a supply chain must have, and how they can be optimally placed in relation to each other.

Through these what-if scenarios, Locus makes decision-making easier for enterprises, without the need to make expensive on-ground investments. Reworking supply chain networks could also translate to faster deliveries at the last-mile, which are otherwise difficult to optimize, and reflect in an improved customer experience.

Being listed as a leading vendor for the second time in a row in this latest edition of Gartner’s market guide motivates us to keep further pushing the envelope on innovating and enhancing last-mile efficiencies for businesses across the globe with sustainable and futuristic tech.
